Since its launch in 1984, Yamazaki 12 year old has been the leading single malt in Japan. Originally part of the core range, it is now a highly sought after expression due to its rarity. The Yamazaki distillery, founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923, is considered Suntory's flagship and was strategically located in the town of Yamazaki for its ideal climate and convergence of three rivers, reminiscent of Scotland. While initially producing both malt and grain for blends, the opening of Chita distillery in 1972 allowed Yamazaki to focus solely on its exceptional single malt brand. Today, it is renowned as one of the most coveted whiskies in the world.
